Naming the Lord

Now the Lord was three months old. At that time, Saint Markanday came to Dharmadev and Bhaktimata’s house. Dharmadev stood up and welcomed him. He gave him a seat and prayed to him.

Dharmadev said “You are learned and a renowned astrologer. Give my son a name according His future.”

Laughing he said “The birth of your son is on the auspicious time of Kark, and therefore His name shall be HARI. The colour of His body is pale so He shall be known as KRISHNA. People shall call him by the name GHANSHYAM. He has the virtues penance, meditation, dedications, religion, discipline, truth and
knowledge, therefore, He will be known as NILKHANTH. He will establish religion on this earth. He will get rid of your sufferings as well as other peoples’ sufferings.  His fame will spread worldwide. He will give salvation to people
and save them from the cycle of birth ant death. By making everyone be devoted to God, He will bring happiness to them.”

Dharmadev became very happy. He gave gifts of beautiful clothes, cows and jewels to the saints and bade him farewell.
