Khampa Talavdi

Ghanshyam used to go play in a forest near His house. This was the forest, which was ever green and full of flowers. Cowherds also used it for grazing their cows. His friends would make garlands out of the flowers and present them to Ghanshyam. Once Ghanshyam was standing by the lakeside when all the cowherds started returning home. Ghanshyam called out to all the cows, which returned back and stood by Him. Even after great efforts by the cowherds, none of the cows moved. Ghanshyam pat each cow and then told them to return. Soon all the cows were on their way back.

Ghanshyam continued to play and climbed a tree nearby. As He was descending He slipped and fell down with a thump. A splinter hit His right leg, and he started bleeding. Ghanshyam's friends were frightened. Sukhnandan ran to call Dharmadev. As soon as he left, the Lords, Indra, Brahma, Chandra and Vishnu appeared in the sky.

Lord Indra called on Ashvinikumar to come and give Bal Ghanshyam a treat. After Ghanshyam had received treatment, the Lords paid their tribute and vanished into the sky.

When Dharmadev returned with Sukhnandan he was astonished to see Ghanshyam bandaged. On inquiring, he was told that the Lords had come and instructed Ashwinikumar to treat Him. Dharmadev then carried Bal Ghanshyam to his home.

At home, Bhaktimata was waiting for her son. As soon as He was in sight, she ran and embraced Him and asked where He was injured. Ghanshyam told that he was wasn't and opened the bandage, Bhaktimata saw no injury and only a sore. From then onwards the lake is known as the “Khampa Talavdi”.
